Ad Ops Topics: VAST

Digital Video Ad Serving Template (VAST) and Digital Video Player-Ad Interface Definition (VPAID) are two technology standard definitions drafted and maintained by the IAB. Both standards facilitate the serving and creation of digital video advertising. The VAST standard is currently in revision 2.0. It is an pre-determined XML format which allows video players (that have support the standard) to understand the elements of a video ad request (such as video file url, click through url, third party ad tracking pixels, length of video ad, etc) and use that information to properly display and handle the ad. VPAID is related to VAST but is actually an API which allows different forms of rich media video advertising to interact with video players using a standard format.
